@benroyce @maya_b a lot of people not in the UK find the "build at least 1 affordable home" policy to be... weird? Laughable? Obscure?
But the thing is, st this point, we have had decades of Governments, of all political types, promising to build "affordable" housing, then permitting construction on housing projects that the average person can't afford.
Don't bother applying for a mortgage if you earn less than £50k, you WILL be laughed at, snd even then, you need a sizable deposit.
Most new builds start at around £350k, even though the majority of of these "affordable" houses are supposed to be for those on low incomes.
Instead, they get bought en masse by landlords who lease them out at exorbitant rents to people earning much more who still can't get a mortgage.
The UK has a massive housing crisis, eith hundreds of thousands of affordable new homes needing built annually for the next decade, but no, only the well-off can afford these new houses.
