    @SheamusPatt @anon_opin Paying someone to securely transport cash, including insuring it, costs waaaaaay more than a 2% card fee.

    This is why I hate when folks whine about the skimming rather than about using a monopoly to police what people can get paid for and who can get paid.

      @vfrmedia @SheamusPatt @anon_opin You should absolutely be free to use cash. But vendors do have good reason to prefer non-cash transactions even if they have to pay a fee on them. The cost is less than the cost of securing cash, whether the risks are at rest or in transit. So we need policy, not vendor's self-interest, preserving the ability to use cash.

      @dalias @SheamusPatt @anon_opin

      In UK risk is more the machine being attacked with cordless power tools to extract the cash (or uprooted altogether with heavy plant and processed elsewhere) than an armed blag on the person taking away the cash (this kind of crime is relatively rare nowadays due to less use of cash and better security procedures and CCTV/surveillance)

      I'd be happy with a choice between card and cash (coin/banknote readers aren't that reliable, again due to greater security procedures which can create false positives on valid coins/notes) but whats happening in some areas is the machine is defective or altogether absent, and you are forced to use a parking app (which is only "cheaper" to the Council because its harvesting your data to pay for the service)
