     @Paradox in a similar vein, reparations for slavery + jim crow etc., also aren't about blame or guilt or punishment or whatnot, it's quite literally just about righting material wrongs which persist to this day. damage was done that was never undone, and the ones who indirectly benefit from that damage have a responsibility to make things right with the ones who are still directly harmed by it to this day. it's simply the right, morally responsible, thing to do

     @Paradox I don't think it's really about blaming anyone for anything, but rather, about correcting injustices that have never been corrected. something stolen 5 generations ago doesn't just suddenly rightfully belong to the descendants of those who stole it simply because they themselves had no hand in the theft. it's still stolen and still should be given back, or at least not treated as rightfully owned by its inheritors.

     Part of that feels like blaming us for the sins of our ancestors, sometimes. But I will agree that we have lots of systems with lots of inertia that hold them back from reforming. That's just how culture and society work. Even if we had a monarchy, through and through, an unpopular king doesn't last long.

     But I digress. I'm just annoyed that the supposed left party to contest the right seems to either be getting pulled to the right or just being stupid.
