   My family haven't had a holiday abroad for 8 years. I tell them we can't afford it, but the truth is we can. The real reason's because I'm never leaving our dog in kennels again. When we left him there during our last trip abroad he looked so depressed. Never again little Bertie

     @lemgandi @fesshole this is the answer. Our dog hated being kenneled too, so instead we paid a house sitter to come hang out. Now my retired FIL does it for free.
