traveling with the family and trying the UniFi Travel Router!

it logs into hotel wifi (even captive portals) and creates a new wifi network, with the same name as ours at home. it also sets up a vpn to our home network.

result: everyone’s devices hopped on wifi, with zero setup! (and i get my NAS)

@cabel How does it deal with the captive portals?

@cabel That didn't say anything your original post didn't. I was asking specifically *how* it automates bypassing the captive portal.

@dalias you first connect to the wifi network it generates, which allows it to pass through the captive portal pages.

@cabel OK, that explains it. I guess I can understand that, but the part that was interesting to me was the idea of client devices never seeing the captive portal and possibly having their network/browser state messed up by it (like restored tabs getting replaced by login screens).

@dalias i didn’t actually ever use the words “automate” or “bypass”, but, to be fair, i did forget a space in “passthrough”. :) it literally *passes* you the captive portal login flow *through* your web browser. (advantage over a android touchscreen: autofill or password fill works as expected if needed.)
