I remember reading someone who thought the Culture books were dystopian because humans surrender their power and decision-making to the largely benevolent robots.
Then I consider that I live in a real world where I don't have power left to surrender, and all decision-making comes from people who think boiling the world and every living thing on it, to run up their bank accounts like high score in a video game, is the best way to squander our lives.
It doesn't make me feel much better.
