      @ryanc nice alt, I didn't see the yellow badge wire on the first pass

      BTW, keeping the 5v hot, was that to interfere with some devices who wanted the i²c to be on continuously

      @webhat The 5v line is used to detect the source - the HDMI switch otherwise will not consider that port a valid target. If I switch to it, the monitor shuts off.

      @webhat The switch uses the NEC IR protocol, and the first Google result for "HDMI switch ir codes" turns up this:

      which I got working via a Python script talking to pigpiod.

      The HDMI switch throws a bloody fit if the control line stays low, though.
