   For the last 8 years, our visa restrictions required that I only have one job and that my spouse only work. Every time we changed jobs or moved, we had a whole bureaucratic thing.

   Now, we can do anything, live anywhere. Do lots of things, live in any city / state we want!

   The ‘freedom’ feels weird. I don’t know what to do with it.

     I generally feel like we are at a huge life / career crossroads.

     We are planning to give up the SF apartment that’s been our steady and stable home this entire time; go back to Asia (briefly, for a few months) to recharge. Come back in the new year and start a fresh new life in many ways.

     I’ve been working on laying the groundwork for this moment for so long and now that I’m close, it feels like I’m impatient about wanting to skip over this uncertainty to get there. But also, I know I need to just slow down and be mindful of how far we’ve already come. How this moment will be a rare moment of rest and relaxation and change.

     Today, I went to a federal building to request that they issue me a new social security card that is unrestricted, that doesn’t have ‘only valid with work authorization’

     It means I can exist here without needing to work! (Whether or not I can is another thing..)

     But frankly, I’m a little surprised that we managed to survive this horrible period with so many things stacked against us.

     I shudder to think about what it’s like right now to be laid off in tech and having to check ‘needs visa sponsorship’ and needing everything to close (including offer + visa) within 60 days, or else GTFO

     I spent a couple of years very, very sick. I was very thankful to have largely recovered. I am much more aware of my limits now. I’m about to go do something very difficult yet again. I am grateful to have the energy and resources and environment to now do those things well.

     Mostly, I don’t think there’s more I could have hoped for at this stage in my life than to be healthy, and to be in a time and place of my life and in the world where I generally feel like I’m on the cusp of.. something I’m excited about.
