Ironically, the people who call others "snowflakes" for supposedly not being tough enough to handle "the real world" are usually people who can't stand to even briefly contemplate unpleasant realities & who banish all uncomfortable thoughts from their own minds the moment they arise. You know, like tough people do.

It's so strong & badass to run away from the bad thoughts like a terrified child.

People who want to alienate you from what you feel are never to be trusted.

Your feelings do not always represent external, objective reality, but they represent *your* reality, & part of their purpose is to let you know when you are being harmed or you have been harmed in a way that needs a resolution.

My emotions guided me out of my abusive marriage. When I stopped ignoring them & listened to what they were telling me, I understood that I had to leave.

Abuse culture mocks feelings because your emotions are what clue you in to the fact that something is wrong when you are experiencing abuse.

Abuse culture teaches you to ignore what you feel & to run away from anyone or anything that might encourage you to explore your own emotional world.

When people learn to recognize & deal with their trauma, abusers start to lose their power. Can't have that.

Anyone who tells you that only weak people explore their emotions is someone who has been taught to fear their own emotions above all.

If you go to those bad places in your mind, you have to deal with things. If you think about the trauma & abuse other people (especially family) put you through, then you have to deal with what it means for having them in your life in the present day.

Doing emotional work is fucking painful & scary, but it's necessary for your freedom.

Some people try to live as though they do not have an internal world at all, & that doesn't work out well for them OR anyone else.

We all have shit going on. We all have important emotional experiences happening in our daily lives, & we have to learn to recognize & honor that instead of denying it.

We live in an abusive society where people who were trained to ignore their own trauma try to teach others that only weak people deal with that shit.

I saw an autistic YouTuber critiquing a video where someone is portraying "the friend who gaslights you into thinking you're having emotional issues" or something like that.

The YouTuber pointed out that it's possible this person is experiencing another person *recognizing* that they have something of emotional significance going on, but it feels like "gaslighting" to them because they aren't acknowledging their own emotional state & don't expect anyone else to.

I suppose that's why they laugh at content warnings? They believe that actual tough people have a trash compactor in their brain that crushes all the scary thoughts down as soon as they enter, don't they?

"What do you need a content warning for?" might as well be, "Have you tried simply not ever feeling the bad feelings?"

If you want to deal with "the real world" there are a number of truly horrific & uncomfortable realities that have to be acknowledged.

If you can't get mentally outside of your comfort zone, you can't meaningfully engage with much of anything in this hellworld.

As these folks like to say when complaining about content warnings: reality is uncomfortable sometimes.

Being too scared to think your own thoughts inside your own head is not a sign of impressive courage & fortitude.

Like, "I know that the slightest bit of cognitive dissonance causes all your thinking processes to shut down in a panic. You're not going to convince me you're tough."

      @artemis

US politicians, both Democrat and MAGA fascist, are snowflakes who refuse to face the reality of the empire they lead. The mass murder, the genocide, etc
