Because the underlying infrastructure / distribution cost didn't change. Thus, everyone still pays. -

Utilities are highly regulated here. Profits are thin, liability is huge, especially regarding the legacy infrastructure. PG&E is the most expensive as a result and particularly because they serve rural areas where fire liability is high. -

Billions in fines from the wildfires they caused, they buried most of their shit up here afterwards for infrastructure, and they need to keep their stock holders happy. ?? Humpleupagus ?? likes this. -

@Humpleupagus @Red_Hat @StephenMckenna you'd think it was that simple. I don't think any utilities are run like utilities anymore. Usually you have the governing Public Utility commission setting the limits on what they can charge. Last I heard the scam was after the substation attack in about 2011 in southern California. Everyone had to increase security on big subs so it was a bonanza for a lot of people and that section of the bill thats vaguely worded itemization gets bigger. ?? Humpleupagus ?? likes this. -

Either way it's shit and fixed by the state really. They're about to effectively outlaw natural gas here. -
