Homelessness would be temporary transient state in an ideal world. Data centers will be noisy ugly eyesores for a long time. -

A lot of people at soup kitchens and homeless/poor relief charties are “regulars”, but you also get people who you can tell are just temporary or new arrivals. It is very sad to see when there are kids involved. Usually the temporary or struggling ones seem ashamed or afraid to ask for things. -

i once worked with a guy who volunteered at a homeless shelter and they had a recurring problem of people shitting in front of their door and smearing on the handle, you can't fix these people. -

It would be more ethical to use them for labor and feed and shelter them. -

@BowsacNoodle @ColdOnesLite @egirlyuumimain One of the problems with homelessness is permanently homeless people accumulate while temporarily homeless people dissipate. Most homeless people will have been homeless for a long time and will continue to be homeless, by simple virtue of the fact that those that aren’t, aren’t. The question of homelessness is essentially, “what are we going to do with people who are homeless forever?” Or “how do we stop that?” -

Well first off you eliminate all drugs. Then you put down all permanently homeless in some sort of ethical overdose. -

Most are incapable of working due to drug dependency and severe mental issues. Most of those issues further pushed by said drugs. I dont necessarily want to just kill people, but these people will never be useful -

@BowsacNoodle @ColdOnesLite @egirlyuumimain I feel bad saying “use them for labor” but I am definitely in the “just give them homes” category. Once all of these people are given homes, they can be separated into the “drug addict” “dysfunctional low-IQ” and “crippling mental illness” categories and be dealt with separately. Keeping homeless people on street feels like keeping the most vulnerable elements of society in the worst conditions possible. My issue is homelessness compounds whatever other thing they’re going through, and even if they’re destined to be a permanently medicated street sweeper, you’ve got to at least take them out of that environment. It’s crazy to me that we have animal cruelty laws but don’t have a “so you’re permanently dysfunctional” social system that will just put them someplace safe. BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

I feel bad too. I am functionally saying they would be better in minimum security prison or some type of equivalent place where they aren’t in charge of their own schedule and can at least be kept from harming others and hopefully themselves. That creates new challenges and problems, but having mediocre food and a crappy prisoner esque housing is better than sleeping on a stoop in the elements while being doped up. -

A lot of them dont want houses though. They want to live on the street. I know thats hard to believe, but its the truth. Others won't go to shelters because shelters have rules. BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

As someone who lives out of his car this is certainly true, in so many more ways than you can think of before you've experienced it. Being able to store multiple days worth of water for example has stopped me from drinking clay filled stream water.BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

@BowsacNoodle @ColdOnesLite @egirlyuumimain I can only imagine the stress raking on their brain when they’re sleeping in the open, wearing everything they own in a backpack, if they’re lucky. God help them if they have any exposure to drugs. It makes everything so much worse. Any bad thing that could happen, if it happens to a homeless person, is 5x worse. Even if it’s just a roof over their head and a lock on their door, even if it’s like, a shack, is better.
And that would clean up the streets. And maybe you’d even see some of them recover over time. I think soldiers and cops are probably the only ones who can experience a similar level of stress over an extended period as the homeless. -

@Maroon @BowsacNoodle @ColdOnesLite @egirlyuumimain I do sort of believe homelessness is used as a threat against people so they remain permanently insecure, because it's such an agonizing tar pit, and fixing the problem forever wouldn't take much, even by the standards of social programs.
Jailing millions of people in the 90's didn't even cost that much, and the homeless population is a fraction of that size. -

[The tyrant] should impoverish his subjects; he thus provides against the maintenance of a guard by the citizen, and the people, having to keep hard at work, are prevented from conspiring. The Pyramids of Egypt afford an example of this policy; also the offerings of the family of Cypselus, and the building of the temple of Olympian Zeus by the Peisistratidae, and the great Polycratean monuments at Samos; all these works were alike intended to occupy the people and keep them poor. Another practice of tyrants is to multiply taxes, after the manner of Dionysius at Syracuse, who contrived that within five years his subjects should bring into the treasury their whole property. The tyrant is also fond of making war in order that his subjects may have something to do, and be always in want of a leader.

Maybe, I just think people see a scraggly skinny fat white man smoking shirtless in front of a gas station and they feel instinctual danger instead of sympathy, and not always without justification. The average hobo isn't like what people who don't live around them imagine, and for the people who do they're begging for change and the uncertantly of if they're druggies or just unlucky causes them to get annoyed anytime they're force d to interact.
tl;dr they're a lot less sympathetic in practice than in theory. -

@Maroon @BowsacNoodle @ColdOnesLite @egirlyuumimain I don't think that's the homeless people's fault, it's just not where they should be. No one wants homeless people around them for all the reasons anyone can think of, real and imagined. I don't think it's the business of gas station patrons to care for the deep needs of a homeless man, and frankly it's okay if they don't even want to look at him (he's gross and has a wild look in his eyes).
It's just that even people with the genetic wealth of a starfish or luck of an ablatross shouldn't be tossed out of the pan and into the fire. It certainly won't help them. And ask New Yorkers about how happy it makes them.
It's taking people with the least ability or who are at their lowest point in life, and throwing them into literally the hardest life situation imaginable, for an indefinite period. It just shouldn't happen. There should be a stop before they get to that point. -

Helping bums with food or water or clothing is something easy enough to do. Yeah money is fungible but the real addict will half starve before they abstain, so I’d rather support other ways instead. Also my experience seeing people panhandling then driving off in a c class has made me never want to help people with cash on the side if the road -
