    you're not really "not a christian at all" if you live in the Western Hemisphere. Secular morality is downstream of Christianity. Even if it's not, it's a response to it.

      @sun Africa is full of Christians, yet somehow they don't share this morality.

      @sun

      When you learn about pre-Christian Scandinavian/Germanic cultures it starts to become pretty clear that a lot of that managed to remain status quo throughout the Christian era too. We don't really have a pure culture in that sense, but an amalgam of the various cultures that contributed over millennia. Even something like knightly chivalry which seems endemic to western European culture, is arguably an import from the Alan (Iranian-speaking people from the Eurasian steppe) cavalry units who were brought there by the Romans as mercenaries and left behind when Rome abandoned the colony.

      @sun Brook Ziporyn has a great book called "Experiments in Mystical Atheism" that talks about this and how a lot of the New Atheist movement was essentially Christianity rebranded "without God" versus a true construction of a non-theistic morality and world system. Highly recommend it and any of his other books/talks.
