It begs the question why people didn't come forward earlier, to which we already know the range of possible answers.
1. He was innocent and these are made up to discredit him.
2. He was guilty and in a position of power to make the accusers believe that their statements would not be taken seriously.
3. He played the sacred caste card which automatically made him beyond reproach and able to commit further crimes.
I sometimes wonder if we can ever regain trust in our broken legal system. -

But I'm not too big on personal refutations anyway, because actual perpetrators use them all the time as well. What matters is external evidence. But I'll edit the original.Also, a variation of 2: he had enough clout in "the community" that anyone knowing about wrongdoing had reason to believe they would become the target of a mob, were they to say anything.
It wouldn't be the first time people keep their mouths shut until a person is dead, because they fear repercussions.KeepTakingTheSoma likes this.
