@funcrunch you will not hear that from me. Those people don't know shit. Fuck them. Livestock account for 10-15% of global GHG emissions. Reducing or eliminating meat from your diet is one of the best things a person can do to fight climate change.
I guessed this was a sub-toot (and found the relevant thread you replied to); not weighing in there.
In any case, animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors to climate change. But whenever vegans like myself point that out, we're told that our personal consumption habits don't make a difference as long as multinational corporations keep doing yadda yadda whatever, I don't have the strength to argue back. I'm a vegan for ethical reasons first and foremost anyway.
@evan > It is obscene to be a grown human being on planet Earth in 2026 and not have any idea what actually causes climate change.
Yeah. What causes climate change is, in large part, the burning of fossil fuels.
“In both [the USA and Canada], most of the electricity consumed by data centres is produced from fossil fuels, which also meet most of the increase to 2030.”
@evan > most of the energy for data centres comes from fossil fuels.
Yes. And until that ceases, those data centres should be shut down or never funded in the first place.
> Most of the fossil fuels do not go to data centres.
I don't know of anyone who denies that. Whether that's true or not, we still need to stop the obscene allocation of fossil fuel burning represented by #GenAI data centres, today and in the near future.
