Went to an apiary where all 4 hives died this winter to steal some frames of comb for my splits. Was surprised that two of the hives had swarms move in. Freebees! And they were super chill when I peeked in the hives. Would be amazing if the were feral bees from a bee tree down in the crick, maybe they have mite resistant genetics.

I had my hive vanish at the beginning of last year. I'm not the best bee keeper. There was a straggler or two, but it was empty. Two weeks later I went to break it apart and put the hive away, but it was now full of bees! Not sure if there was an extra queen cell that saved the hive or if another swarm just moved in.
I didn't get any honey last year, but they're looking super healthy this year. Will probably pull off the honey supper in early June.

I just have the one hive. I just do it for fun. I don't even eat that much honey. I still have a sealed bucket full. I just fill jars and give them to friends and family as gifts.

@djsumdog Oh sweet, terrific luck! Yeah bet 100% a swarm moved in. I've had 3 swarms move in total this year. Which is good because I was down to 8 colonies after winter. Now I should be at like 20-25 if most of my splits are successful.
