i'm fucking patching gefs to remove permission bits. i don't fucking need permission bits, it's my computer.

Yeah, I'd think so; like in your plan9.ini you'd have "bootargs=local!/dev/sd00/fs -S". Permissions should work if you set up your box right as an auth server (this is something I forget to do). But I'm running this fossil root without auth and that's fine cause like, it's just serving it locally.

Fair nuff, I just got back into this shit myself: I hacked up the bootrc to get a fossil root running a couple hours ago. You should ask @p about this stuff, he gave me some advice when I was fucking around with it.

@sicp @p i really should be asking more questions instead of trying to figure everything out myself. i did ask pete how to take screenshots once he answered pretty quickly. i suppose part of it is i don't want to be a pest if i can figure it out myself.

@HatkeshiatorTND can't you just mount with -S?

@HatkeshiatorTND @sicp It helps with things I hadn't considered. Plus I really like to talk about this stuff.

@HatkeshiatorTND @p Yeah I get that, no harm in asking questions and not wanting to be spoonfed is a good sign of a desire to learn. Plan 9 is once of those nice things too where if you RTFM or just dig into the code you'll usually find an answer: it's very well documented and structured. I liked Emacs for the same reason, you can just crack it open any time.

I believe so. I haven't played with gefs, but the Plan 9 man pages are much more useful than the Linux ones so it's always a great place to check initially.

I love to talk about this stuff.
