    Someone posted a video on one of the bad sites saying ‘don’t order individual things when you go to Chinese restaurants, try family style’ and people are absolutely losing it yelling at her that

    The will order five separate plates of General Tso’s chicken always

      @sysop408 they’re ordering one entree per person, with no rice. Just eating it straight.

      @skinnylatte OK, but the question is where are these people even going that a Chinese restaurant has individual plates?

      @coldfish @sysop408 I feel like most restaurants will do the one entree per person thing if someone asks for it. They’re not going to say you can’t do it.

      @sysop408 @skinnylatte
      I discovered that it's not just tourist chinese restaurants that do this!

      I live right in chinatown, and my inlaws are all chinese. And we eat at some pretty sketchy places where they can get the best stinky-fish pot and argue about who's chicken feet are better.

      When we go, my mother-in-law will get the menu (it used to be her husband before he died) and order for everyone. We don't really get a say.

      When I used to go to the same restaurant with non-chinese friends, we all get menus with individual plates and I have to ask for the family menu.

      Now that they all know me, when I'm there with non-chinese friends, they automatically give me the family menu and I get to ignore everyone else at the table.

      then again.... the check also goes to me. :)
