    Think I should give niri a try on my laptop. I dont care about scrolling so much (I don't really get the appeal?) But its got some features I kinda wish sway had, and it seems to be lightweight so... Worth a look

      @mirq @cine `sway —unsupported-gpu` is my constant reminder that the sway devs actually hate me for having an nvidia card.

      I do like void, but I've only ever used it on my igpu laptop that runs a minimalistic low-aesthetic sway config with some custom bash scripts. Dunno how well it handles nvidia/gaming but I'll figure it out once arch/systemd finish implementing their age nonsense

      @mirq A fellow void enjoyer, I see. Yeah, I didn't felt like jumping through any hoops so I didn't even look at hyprland.

      I didn't feel like changing anything either. I just did it on a whim to see if I was missing on anything by not giving wayland a try.

      @mirq I wanted to give the shells a try. I went with noctalia, iirc that was the name. I it's pretty neat. I spent quite a bit of time configuring my own shell with programs here and there, for notifications, app launcher, custom blocks on the i3 bar, input methods... etc. niri and noctalia have all of those things built in out of the box. It was crazy I had nothing to configure to have the same experience I crafted myself over the years. That's a pretty big selling point. That said, if I were to try wayland again I'd try sway+noctalia. They seem to be compatible and I'm just too used to i3 at this point. I'm becoming a grumpy old man...

      @cine I learned about shells like
      Yesterday
      I dont feel the need to change anything about my extant configs but if/when I switch my desktop away from Arch and to Void, I'll probably go with noctalia+sway. Or DMS+sway. Need to look into it

      Hyprland is okay but its also unstable as hell and that gets old. Doubly old on Void, where using hyprland requires jumping through hoops

      @cine gotcha gotcha
      If it works and ain't broke 🤷
      I use wayland bc its the only thing I've ever used and it works fine for me, but every argument against x11 I've seen seems kinda gay tbh

      @cine I just noticed that in a video
      Dude is gushing about tab groups but theyre denoted by barely visible vertical bars with no titles or anything... Unpleasant

      What issues were you having with emacs? I use vim so I have no insight, just curious

      @mirq Emacs' pure gtk front end is... subpar. There are issues with the scaling that makes it hog resources and runs like shit. That can be supposedly be solved by modifying something about scaling, but I just didn't want to spend time figuring that out when I had a perfectly working configuration with i3 already. So I went back to emacs' x11 front end.

      @mirq That makes sense. I do use the stacking windows in a tab sometimes, but I forgot about them from the moment I went to niri until now... weird.

      I didn't like how they worked on niri, though. I think it was related to the title bars not showing so I had no Idea where was the window I was looking for, whereas for i3 the title bar appears when you stack windows and the active/inactive are highlighted differently. That helps me navigate the windows. Maybe I just needed a bit more configuration, but since emacs didn't work well and I need emacs for most of the things I do in my PC I had to cut short my time on wayland.

      @mirq I tried it for a few days. I got dizzy with all the scrolling. Also, I'm just too used to manually tiling my windows so the dynamic tiling threw me off. I only realized this after coming back to i3, though, so I was probably getting used to it anyways.

      @cine
      I'm ambivalent to the scrolling but I could see it bothering me too, only one way to find out

      As for manual/dynamic - I hate both 😅
      I use both sway and hyprland and I'm constantly fighting both. Sway a little more but only because hyprland is on a bigger screen.

      I love sway's tabbing/stacking modes but good fucking god is getting windows where you want them a fucking pain sometimes.

      Every glazing comment or video about niri I've seen talks about it like its revolutionary but just mentions shit i3 and probably every other tiling wm does lol. So odd

      However from watching videos I see that niri handles vertical tiling better than sway and that's been my main gripe with sway so
