@Fragglemuppet not sure New York has got its moniker on a shortcake, but I assume it would involve a hotdog and be served on a hubcap.

@ottaross Excuse me? I'm from New York, now live in Florida, and I assure you, if you order strawberry shortcake in those 2 places you will get 2 very different things. Neither one is served on a hubcap, but of the two, Florida comes closer.
@ottaross Unless you have a New York-style bakery nearby, of course.
@ottaross Oh? I admit it's been hard to find a good one of those lately.
@Fragglemuppet I once had a lemon meringue pie in a New York diner, and it was dramatically a different thing, so I believe you. 😂
@ottaross But was it better or worse than anywhere else?
@ottaross Ah, yes, diner desserts are rarely the best.
@Fragglemuppet it was about six inches tall, and rubbery. Haha. Quite memorable.
@ottaross So lemme see if I can explain this... The strawberry shortcakes I grew up with are very tall, fluffy cake, with whipped cream and whole strawberries and strawberry filling and little pieces of strawberry inside. I ordered 1 for my birthday a few years ago from the fancy bakery here and was delighted to find it was just like that.
@Fragglemuppet sadly worse, but likely a poor sample.
@ottaross Had strawberry shortcake for dessert at 2 restaurants here in Florida, because I forgot my experience after the first one. It was a big pile of supposedly vanilla ice cream with a little bit of strawberry syrup on a biscuit. Not a special, sweet biscuit or anything, but the same kind you can get on a breakfast sandwich, lol.
