@leavex in my family people with mental problems intensified by social media were harmed by it as already adults. So yes, ban toxicity-promoting designs instead of drawing arbitrary line where person is "mature enough" to deal with poison.

But what you're saying is not helpful in current climate and depends on an ill-defined term "social media" whereby harms of some shit are used to justify stripping children of their rights and denying them community in other venues lumped under the same label, and building a fascist hellscape for us all.

There's two decades of peer reviewed research, parental involvement does almost nothing. Social media is bad for just about everyone but really harmful for children. You can rationalize that away while you push the dopamine lever on your phone all you want.
