   @dave unless you're paying vendors a LOT of money, it's much easier and faster to get the open source software patched

     Feels vindicating that after the anti-open-source rhetoric from certain people I’ve experienced, I found an issue in a package we use, raised it as an issue in the GitHub repo, received a thanks from a maintainer for writing it up, and someone has a draft of a patch to fix it in less than 24 hours. I don’t take it for granted, but there *is* support out there for this stuff — just not always the traditional “throw money at Microsoft until it works” sort.
