This zone isn't my favorite, but I love this track. It reminded me of MJ before I ever knew MJ was involved.
By the way, this is just one of an infinity number of examples of why rereleases and collection releases are NOT game preservation. Yes, I'm THRILLED Origins exists, it's decent, it's accessible. It is NOT a valid substitute for the original.
@hellomiakoda sorry to burst your bubble, but Michael Jackson wasn't actually involved in *making* the music for Sonic 3, but the real story is a lot cooler and more interesting! MJ felt the Mega Drive's sound hardware was too limited, but because the deal was already struck he got Brad Buxer, one of his close collaborators and concert music director, to write the music for the game!
Ice Cap Zone was based on Hard Times, an unreleased track he made with his new wave band, The Jetzons in the early 80s, and it being finally released decades later (mid 2010s iirc) was the piece of the puzzle that finally elucidated the whole "was MJ involved with this or was that just an urban legend".
Meanwhile, the credits theme from Sonic 3 was repurposed for Stranger in Moscow a year or so later!
@hellomiakoda I don't actually like Sonic games (I like them in theory but every time I try to play one I'm like "oh, yeah, right, that's why I don't play these") so I don't really have much else to talk about on this topic haha
