It's understandable why people thought the next step for Sony's PC ports would involve simultaneous releases of single-player games with the PS5 versions, but them halting the ports entirely was always a possibility. They saw the "PS5 has no games" jokes. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-03-04/sony-pulls-back-from-playstation-games-on-pc?accessToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJzb3VyY2UiOiJTdWJzY3JpYmVyR2lmdGVkQXJ0aWNsZSIsImlhdCI6MTc3MjYzMTM4OSwiZXhwIjoxNzczMjM2MTg5LCJhcnRpY2xlSWQiOiJUQkRNVTVLR1pBS0owMCIsImJjb25uZWN0SWQiOiJCMUVBQkI5NjQ2QUM0REZFQTJBRkI4MjI1MzgyQTJFQSJ9.iJ25MhKjr88ECoSb_2cT3JX9MqYduN3JmMm63yusBVE

@chris @Dio_Senrab I would also imagine they looked at how well said strategy worked for Xbox and said "nope."

Additionally, how Nintendo's first party titles have never gone to PC, and that a lot of people will pick up a Switch or Switch 2 for that exclusive.

@Dio_Senrab I always wondered why they would water down their brand and USP by releasing PC ports. A few million more sold copies of formerly exclusive games means cannibalizing their console sales because why would I buy a PS5 Pro or any portable Playstation"PSPDeck" in the future when I can play God of War on PC or Steamdeck? Which also means massive potential losses considering Sony's share in ALL other games sold digitally on their Playstation Store. I would assume that the average lifetime value of a PS5 owner is higher than the profit from a couple of PC ports per user. I'm sure someone at Sony did the math and was like 🤯 "This has to stop right now".

@Dio_Senrab @chris Yep better to quash that now, rather than have it become an expectation from gamers going forward.

@silver_huskey @chris Sony said "we're not going third-party thank you!"

@silver_huskey @Dio_Senrab ☝️Exactly. Nintendo is successful because they don't sell their exclusives for cheap on Steam. And I can't remember I ever heard someone complaining that Zelda, Donkey Kong and Mario haven't been ported to PC. It's just common sense that you need a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games 🤷♂️

@chris @Dio_Senrab Pretty much! I'm still a bit surprised that Sony even dabbled in it to begin with. Live service games, maybe I can understand, but first party exclusives? 😅
