Mastodon will allow up to 150 accounts in Starter Kits.

I'm not sure about that tbh, I was going to limit it to 50 accounts max in Loops.

We would support upto 150 to maintain Mastodon/FEP compatibility, but I want to hear your opinion!

I think we should segment max # of accounts you can add to kits based on how many followers you have, to prevent abuse.

Such a promising feature like this can be abused easily if we don't implement it properly.

@dave oh okay that is good to know, I was thinking a max limit between 25-50 would be ideal for Loops/Pixelfed.

@dansup Actually we will not. We may allow ingesting a max of 150 from other AP servers, but you will not be able to create such large collections from within Mastodon.

@stefan ah they just replied and said they are going to use a smaller limit.

I think it does make sense to split them up if you have a huge list, because 25-50 accounts per kit does involve a lot of backend processing!

The more I work on Starter Kits, the more complex I realize they are, in terms of getting them right.

Like, we should re-check attestation urls periodically, send updates to remove accounts and pray we don't have any software that doesn't properly support that

@dansup Ah, did they just change it? I saw a much smaller limit before.

And it's funny, because at the time I thought, for my particular use case of adding all the accounts from https://bots.stefanbohacek.com, it won't be enough.

But after I created https://fedidevs.com/s/ODY4/, I am not sure if encouraging people to follow all accounts really makes sense.

First, I think it might actually have a performance impact on my little server (haven't looked too closely into this to confirm), but also, it can be a bit overwhelming to have to browse a long list of accounts.

So, again, going back to my specific use case, having a "best of" list, and then maybe splitting them all into batches seems to make a lot more sense.
