@gavi Oh wow! Yeah, a mandatory photo state ID to vote would not work there, as it would prevent many homeless folks from exercising their constitutional duty to vote.

@bryanredeagle @gavi Is it a hassle if they were born in the state‽ My process of obtaining birth certificates is expensive because I no longer live in my birth state. I was charged $20 a copy for my certificates (I think I have ordered 3 or 4 copies total).

@darnell @gavi Over in Indiana (where I'm from) there's a free ID, but it requires proof of residency. Which is very difficult since they tend to be really picky about what counts and how old it is. Homeless folks are effectively barred from getting one because of that.

@bryanredeagle @gavi That is definitely true. I had to use my cell phone bill to prove residency just to open a bank account, then use my bank & phone bill to obtain the rest.

@darnell @gavi A birth certificate doesn't prove residency in Indiana. Even if you're born there. It needs to be a recently dated item.
