I don't understand how implementing a setting for a basic feature like increasing the max character count above 500 is still considered controversial in the Mastodon community.
It's literally the first thing every single Mastodon fork changes, because literally everyone agrees that this is arbitrary bullshit that makes the software harder to use for absolutely no reason.

I don't care about your vision and you can leave the default value at 500, sure.
But AT LEAST GIVE PEOPLE A SETTING FOR IT.
THERE'S MULTIPLE FORKS AND ISSUES IN YOUR GIT REPO ASKING FOR THIS ONE SIMPLE THING -

@revengeday@corteximplant.com It's not difficult. It is deliberate. They don't give you a setting because they don't want you to change it.
Because it doesn't fit Gargron's egotistical vision of what Mastodon should be. -

@SuperDicq I also don't understand why it's so difficult to integrate that. If you take Mastodon stock, there's not even an option to adjust the character limit in the server settings...

@SuperDicq You don't understand, it breaks the visual design (Twitter clone), when people can write posts where they fully express themselves. -
