   I was closest to my sister growing up. She was the youngest of my siblings but still a decade and half older than me.

   She doted on me constantly. It was sweet. I was very close to her as a kid.

   Then I came out and transitioned.

   She couldn't bother to gender me consistently. I know, from the regular "he/him" slip ups, that she didn't actually think of me as her sister.

   Our relationship died by degrees over the years. Her being an inveterate right wing racist asshole accelerated the process...

     The last time I talked to her was December of 2011. After years of her low-key misgendering abuse, and confronting her on the most rotten of racist attitudes, I was done.

     But I figure, that if a person is so stupid and mean spirited that they think skin pigmentation makes one group of humans better and more deserving than another group, they're going to be complete fuckers about other differences too.

     And she was.

     Fuck her.

     This is all written in past tense because she died a few years ago. I found out though an internet search.

     I know this will sound cold, but it's a relief that she's no longer around.

     It feels like a kind of closure.
