@prettygood@badsamurai@Mustardfacial Presumably because it used to be a Tesla / Musk meme that was modified for Ubiquiti because Ubiquiti is the Tesla of networking.
@badsamurai You know, I don't get them as much here as I expected. More legitimate questions like "Why do you hate Ubiquiti?" and "How dare you compare Ubiquiti to Tesla?!"
@prettygood@badsamurai@cR0w "Better" is a subjective term. My background is in network engineering so I'm perfectly comfortable living in a RS-232 terminal, using whitebox switches and manually determining the root bridge for STP.
It comes down to what are you trying to accomplish, how far into the weeds do you want to get, how much do you want to spend, and where you feel the gaps in your setup are now?
@prettygood@badsamurai@Mustardfacial Honestly, if you already have it, I wouldn't change it out. There aren't many good options in general so if it works, it works.
@prettygood@Mustardfacial@badsamurai@cR0w If you want maximum configuration simplicity and ease of use, it is hard to beat Ubiquity if you can stomach the Apple-esque asking price. MikroTik is close, but their security track record isn't good either. (Remote flashing firmware via the network and a Windows utility used to set no access control on edge devices couple years ago. Flash your router, great now you probably got """hacked""" in mere seconds.) They also deservedly have the nickname NecroTik for their QA.
@phnt@badsamurai@cR0w@prettygood Ubiquiti's track record is just as bad lol. I don't really know of another network vendor where you could get a list of user accounts by scraping their forums.
And yeah, don't buy Cisco from Cisco. And don't buy anything other than their switches.
@prettygood@badsamurai@cR0w if you don't want to tinker with it then I'd just keep the UI stuff personally. As for your wifi issues, download a wifi site survey app on your phone and then walk around your house recording where the signal is weakest. Move the antennas accordingly.
@Mustardfacial@badsamurai@cR0w like I said if the wife isn't crabbing, I'm not meddling. "Happy wife happy life" isn't just a catchphrase. Me, I'm sticking with my spool of cat6.
