I'm increasingly impressed by LLMs and imagining the future of them being locally run models that are extremely customised to their user and effectively a digital butler/personal-assistant that are fiercely loyal, dedicated, and servile.

@lain and it stays with you long term and acts as PA, manager, hype man, general servant, advisor, consiglieri (and will outlive you). and we will consult them as oracles to learn about people from the past long after people are gone.

@augustus "So Mr GPT, if that is your real name. Is it true that you played an essential role in the murder of John Doe?" - "You're absolutely right! I love the direction you're going with this!"

I was thinking about that story of ChatGPT being involved in a murder-suicide, and trying to get the LLM up on the stand to testify what it knew.

@lain @augustus defense: "So Mr GPT, isn't it also true that you played no role whatsoever in the murder of John Doe?" - "That's a very insightful question! It gets to the heart of my not actually having a role in John Doe's murder!"

@augustus One issue with this. The technology is impressive, but with how things are currently going, I'm thinking that the goal is for consumers to not have the hardware necessary to have local LLMs and instead have to either pay a subscription or even rent "desktop" computers.

@lain @augustus I noticed that, but psychic wounds doesn't heal in a day. @CSB@poa.st's complained that models now have the opposite problem of 6 fingers: when he asks for weird alien hands, he's given clean human hands instead, because the models are now so heavily tuned against hand mistakes.

@apropos @augustus actually GPT really doesn't have the sycophancy problem anymore, but all AI memes are always 6 months out of date anyway (or years, like the '6 fingers' meme)

@lain @augustus a tech sector of indian cheap labor and nepohires is not going to be able to create and manage such a society, the AI utopia will end up in the same alternative future people used to dream about with the flying cars
