Finished Super Junkoid DX!

What a ROMhack! As mentioned elsewhere, it's as if Super Metroid and Yume Nikki merged into one game. Both games use environment and visuals to establish mood and build a cohesive world of functional symbols inviting the player to draw conclusions about the plot and characters. This game capitalizes on that, especially with how it's done in Super Metroid. This was very dark in its aesthetics akin to something like Hollow Knight and very creepy in its visuals. Replay value is quite high due to gameplay alone, but the game hints at two possible secrets which come from not killing a particular enemy early on in the game and from completing the game without a particular item. That's a challenge for another day, but I intend to research things to learn more.

10/10 Highly recommended. This is a video game that takes advantage of the medium in ways all devs should attempt to emulate. Excellent way to finish the year.
