@thomasfuchs I saw a youtube philosophy guy explaining how Elon couldn't be held liable for one of his robocars killing someone because the car used AI so it was responsible for its own actions. Utter madness.

  @thomasfuchs Your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, can you fix it? Can you fix your dishwasher or fridge or tv? Can you orchids bloom? Can you make the perfect soufflé or chocolate eclairs? Everyone has their thing they know well.

    @glyph@mastodon.social This is something I really struggle w/, I explain to folks you can only get meaningful results of the problem you are trying to solve or something close to it is well or overrepresented in the training set. Folks often eventually agree and then go onto to argue things that can't possibly logically follow once you accept this. It is as-if folks see LLM and their brains just turn it into "magic" somewhere along the way.
