   I've spent the morning consolidating a collection spread across many many optical discs onto a single large SSD, and I am shocked at how well the old media has held up. Many of these discs have not been touched in 20 years or longer, some spent years in a got attic, and some have discoleration from smoke (house fire) and UV exposure. Still, zero read failures so far.

     I should probably look up & share the model of the drive I'm using to read them, because it has to be pretty good.

     Unfortunately it seems to be a no-name random-letters-brand one. Perhaps looking at dmesg would show the actual identity.

     @gnomon No, there's no name on the device itself and the original listing was one of those names like FKJSDXKX.
