generally speaking if your game comes with like a textbook or something i will probably get much more interested than if it's not. if the textbook is just "AP Physics"* i will get not only interested but invested

there's a game on steam for which the textbook is just "introduction to semiconductor fabrication" but i'm already doing that as my job _and_ hobby so i've yet to launch it

but yeah i think this totally fits in with the vibe of a steampunk-ish game _and_ would be historically accurate

the refrigerant will obviously be ammonia, there's no other period option that fits well

actually, no, i think sulfur dioxide is a better option than ammonia! there's sulfurous places in the game already, they're rare so it's not a trivial build to set up, and "burning sulfur" is way easier to do as a mechanic than ... however you'd get large amounts of ammonia in a barely-industrial world

barring that, sulfur dioxide plus water can give you sulfuric acid (not... actually, you need VO6 catalyst to get good yield, but we can omit that), ethanol can be distilled, sulfuric acid plus ethanol gives you dimethyl ether, that's also a (mediocre, i would assume) refrigerant

people *did* use CO2 but my understanding was that it wasn't in a loop with a compressor and such, more in something like Icy Ball

@gsuberland it does yea; I've given a lookover to the electricity mods and at a _very_ cursory glance I'm not sure I like the theme, it's like a port of IC2 or somesuch with, possibly, all its faults

fixing nitrogen chemically _would_ avoid that. would need to think about mechanics...
