I am hoping that maybe wearing masks is less politicized than it used to be.

Some people never stopped masking at all, so even people who used to get outraged about seeing them have had to chill out simply because that level of daily anger is not sustainable.

It's a bad winter where lots of people are getting sick. It's pretty hard to make fun of or shame someone for masking up right now.

And the political conversation has also moved on. They are busy drumming up anger over other things now.

Also, would love to see places promoting the quality of their indoor air. Make it a feature restaurants, shops, schools, healthcare providers compete on.

@artemis Also, for anyone who manages or has some control over a public indoor space: clean the air! Use HEPA air purifiers or Corsi-Rosenthal boxes and make sure you have fresh filters. Make sure your building HVAC system is bringing in outside air and running with the highest MERV level filter it can handle. Check CO2 levels. There's plenty of info out there on how to improve & monitor indoor air quality, but even doing just a little is better than nothing and may prevent a few illnesses.

We will never be perfect. It's *hard* sometimes to live in alignment with your values.

Human beings are not very good at consistency between their beliefs & their actions. It's a struggle sometimes. Sometimes our better selves don't win that struggle.

So ok, that being the case, what are you going to do now? Now is what matters. Now is what you can change. Now is the best time to start anything that needs doing.

So let's mask, people! Let's do it! Now is a great time to start!

Let's commit to being caring & respectful of each other in this way. Let's protect people's health. Let's protect ourselves & our loved ones too!

You don't need to be a "gold star" COVID-avoider who has never ceased being vigilant. That's a great thing that I really respect, & I wish I had been so consistent, but if that already isn't you, don't let that be the reason you don't do something now.

Letting go of shame for NOT being as conscientious as you should have been is important too.

Shame CAN be a tool that helps us follow through on our values. It can also be something that creates a pit of despair that keeps us from doing better.

Changing your choices NOW is better than getting pulled back under by shame. It's ok to start fresh. It's ok to decide to do better.

I'm going to mask more. If you haven't been masking or could be more diligent with it, I invite you to join me in that.

I'm crossing my fingers that we can all start being more conscientious about masks without so much fear of being harassed.

      It's worth a shot, right?

Start carrying a mask with you, if you weren't already. Just try wearing it whenever you feel you can. Better sometimes than never.

The more we do it, the more normalized it becomes & therefore the easier it becomes to keep doing it. I've let myself be pressured out of it way too much, & I need to recommit.
