@pgreer@thomasfuchs and slowly eats away at their slim budget as more people use it instead of visiting the actual library. The cost continues to go up. Until, you guessed it, no more budget to archive a physical collection for the local community. Death by 1000 conveniences.

Republicans in the USA, at all levels of government, want to refund all public goods (schools, libraries, etc). That is not up for debate. Library budgets are often the first cuts when implementing austerity measures.
@thomasfuchs@pgreer@cmthiede They wouldn't add these services if they didn't want people to use them. Many libraries have a "friends of the library" nonprofit organization you can join to directly support your local library financially too. We joined ours and it also provides a discount to buy used books.
@thomasfuchs OO, thanks. My local library system dropped Kanopy a while ago. However another library I use that permits reciprocal membership *does* still enable Kanopy. So I just switched my library affiliation to that one.
