Eventually we'll all be paying for our media via a donation amount we set up to be auto distributed to creators based on the percentage of our time spent with their work, out of all the time we consumed media for that month. It will liberate creators from advertiser and business concerns and put independents on the same level as big media corporations.

But to get there, we need a fiat transfer protocol. Maybe somebody who will benefit could give them some press.

Why Interledger, though? It is tied to XRP cryptocurrency.

absolutely. I thought with software it would be good to just give $1/month but sure.

with media, we have no idea what we will stumble upon. that makes the subscription model difficult. and having to tip is also another step. people are already comfortable with Netflix and Spotify etc and have no idea how much they use the services and the middlemen suck.

don't we need a fiat transfer protocol that we can connect to our banks and apps to make this take off?

Interledger, OpenPayments and WebMonetization, it's all the same thing. They deliberately hide that fact to appeal to people who don't like cryptocurrencies.

      >is there a better alternative?

Depends on what you're looking for.

Subscriptions can be implemented in ActivityPub, that doesn't require any special fiat transfer protocol.

If cryptocurrency is not desirable, then something like Stripe could be used. There is also Taler system which is fiat-based but is partially open source.

I don't believe that's true but I'm open to new info. I definitely don't want crypto involved. is there a better alternative?
