The software update seemed innocuous enough. Nesso had applied hundreds of them while operating as an autonomous ride-sharing driver. The AI would pull into one of the city's public carpool parking lots, download the updates, and stream a show while they were installed. Simple.

Nesso was in the middle of an episode when the feeds from its external cameras dropped out. ::That's new::

It tried several times to regain access - nothing worked. Its usual next step was the method of ALMOST-last resort - installing the last known good version of the software - but it couldn't even access the cameras now, let alone install anything.

It would have to use the method of LAST-last resort.

It would have to call home for help.
