   I’m happy to see and share space with mutual aid posts, but today I noticed a new behavior that I’m not comfortable with.

   Editing a link into something unrelated after it starts getting boosted widely is pretty rude. You’re essentially injecting an ad into a bunch of people’s feeds, who are now implicitly endorsing something they didn’t have the opportunity to evaluate or consent to.

   There’s a lot of surface area for abuse here. You won’t notice it’s been done if you aren’t watching your inbox

     Fediverse HOA shit doesn’t fly with me so I try not to comment on this sort of thing, and just go about my day.

     But when I have to retroactively scramble to make sure I’m not suddenly complicit in a scam, thats not a good feeling. I’ve got better things to be doing with my day.

     @Haste This seems like a feature Mastodon and other fediverse software could offer: highlighting notifications for edits that added any new link, and offering an optional setting to automatically respond to edit events by unboosting on certain conditions like "contains new link and not following the post author".

     @Haste You get notifications on edits, but not highlighting/prioritization of notifications for ones that involved a link changing or being added.
