"While [the] Steam Machine also requires Dev participation to enable anti-cheat, we think the incentives for enabling Anti-cheat on Machine to be higher than on Deck as we expect more people to play multiplayer games on it. So ultimately we hope that the launch of Machine will change the equation around anti-cheat support and increase its support." ~Valve rep, speaking to Eurogamer.

Does anyone else believe that once Linux hits 5% market share, anti-cheat devs WILL start paying attention?

@NigelGreenway That's something that was (still is) so remarkable about the Steam Deck's interface: that if you never switch to Desktop Mode, it doesn't exactly scream "hey I'm running Linux under the hood!" There's no need to lead with that in the marketing. It's just a device that works great for its intended purpose.

I'll be really interested to see the Steam Machine's UI defaults -- for example, will it boot straight to GameMode/Big Picture out of the box?

@killyourfm Judging by the amount of people shifting from Windows => Linux due to the latest Windows version, I wonder if people will switch to a console instead due to "ease"?

I've just got my cousin converted to the Steam Deck. She's never used Linux, but doesn't play AAA games. She's not noticed any issues and loves the device!

If the Steam Machine pushes on that, I think it would cause concern for devs to think about it more seriously .. 🤔

@Lomkey Microsoft will fight like hell to keep anti-cheat a thing, but I hope they lose. After all, it seems to be the ONLY thing keeping gamers on Windows at this point...
