   @xerz @whitequark you still have to have a separate device with an internet connection, it's really not that far from just taking a photo and sending it to someone

   the resulting url is waaayy too big to fit in a discord message so like . idk. i guess you can copy and paste bits of the text decoded from it to someone

   it's using like zlib with this very strange numerical-only encoding, i don't know why not base64 to make the resulting url smaller

   idk i am definitely not the target audience for this windows-copycat feature

     @qualia @xerz the reason it's using numerics is because QR codes have a digit-specific compression method that's much more efficient than using base64 in terms of QR code size

     @qualia @xerz actually after looking closer i _might_ be misremembering how big the encoding advantage is and it's just done for simplicity?
