   The establishment started lying about this sometime between 1993 and 2002 - at which point I remember first seeing the edit without braces and thinking it was really bizarre that they’d do such a thing.

   Problem is, even if someone finds an old VHS copy of the original-with-braces, like this shot, certain “interests” will just claim it’s been edited in.

   On its own this data point is insufficiently significant to warrant much of anything. But taken as part of the bigger picture, it’s obvious the establishment wants us to trust them over our own senses.

     @BowsacNoodle Not that Dolly; the character Dolly from Moonraker (1979). When I was in jr. high maybe, I watched part of a Bond Marathon on TBS with my dad - one of which featured was Moonraker. In a famous scene, one of the main villains, Jaws, has a love-at-first-sight moment with Dolly; and whole joke is that he’s this huge ugly hulking beast of a man with a metal-mouth, while she’s a petite adorable pigtail-blonde with a metal-mouth (braces of course).
     
     The BBC in a movie review released at the time pointed this out, and several pop-cultural references like the Simpsons leaned into it as well. In my own recollection, my dad made some crass comment along the lines of “I don’t care if she’s got braces, I totally Would.” None of this really makes any sense if she didn’t really have braces. The opposite camp insists she never did, and that many millions of viewers all just projected braces onto her.
