When a client opens a post on the #Mastodon web, why doesn’t it open in the user’s instance so that they can just interact normally with posts? This seems like a huge blocker for new users because the mental model doesn’t match the way all the other websites in the world work. #ux
@skry You would need a browser extension that can check if a page is a Mastodon post (or ideally, another object your home server could load). I wonder if anyone has made an attempt at creating that yet
@skry I think I can simulate the behaviour with Redirector for Firefox but it doesn't know for sure it's looking at a Mastodon post, it only matches the Mastodon URL pattern
@annika There was a Firefox extension that tried to do this redirect trick (graze?) but new users have to choose an instance, have the problem, get someone to tell them about a browser extension, download install config the extension.
@skry I'm sorry to hear that. I would rather err on the side of caution (assuming familiarity with a topic) and clarify if requested, than risk talking down to someone
I also generally only reply if I'm looking for a conversation or interaction. It's "social" networking, after all :blobcatheart:
