@arcadiagt5 — I do my best but some images defy me and in many cases, I try and fail and delete the image and not post anything. Recent cool post was almost all words and only 1/3 would fit the alt-text space.

@jeffowski Haven’t actually seen the image (slow internet where I am ATM) but boosting simply because the #alttext (thanks for providing it) more or less demands it. Thank you, well said.

@lillyfinch — I’ve seen a small pox outbreak up close overseas as a kid. Have nightmares. My son loves rice and I had a fucked up PTSD response when (as a baby) he covered his face and head with sticky white rice. It looked so much like smallpox. He still loves rice, I didn’t freak out in front of him, for the record.

@jeffowski so many have never seen a person limp with a brace down the street because of polio, they have never seen the pox ravaged faces, know the family member with a damaged heart because of scarlet fever. My great uncle came from a family of 8…he was the only sibling to survive into adulthood…he became a Doctor. I won’t mention the women and babies …just look at your family’s tree.

That’s why the saying, “If they can make you believe absurdities, they can make you commit atrocities,” is so powerful.
Loosely attributed to Voltaire.

@jeffowski what troubles me so much about anti-vax parents is this thought: most parents love their children deeply. Many anti-vaxxers think they are protecting their kids by not vaxing. They act out of love for their kids, not out of selfishness or greed or indifference or an active wish to inflict harm. Their distrust of authority trumps the unassailable historic evidence Jeff posted about. Baffling and so very sad.

@Iveyline — they failed math.
That’s why I hate headlines that say “(fill in the blank) doubles your risk of (insert scary health condition here).”
If the initial risk was .002% and it doubles to .004%, are you really worried?

@jeffowski I simply can't understand why anyone would want to be an anti-vaxxer. The risks associated with not being vaccinated are way higher than any risk associated with vaccination.
