Every time I’m outside the USA I love trains and am reminded how pathetic it is that the USA doesn’t have trains everywhere. In general the American sense of superiority (totally undeserved) is pathetic. I love America but it doesn’t have its shit together anymore

@sun i don't think i can recount my disappointment when i landed in america for the first time. i had written a custom script to scour 14 different consulate booking systems because all the embassies were backed up due to covid. i spent the better part of 2 weeks in quarantine in berlin because i couldn't get a student visa in moscow. i asked @mario to pick my passport up for me and mail it just in the nick of time (two times, because the post office dicked him around on the first go, which i am still feeling guilty about). i didn't sleep on the direct redeye from moscow to new york. i had done so much to simply get on a plane to the US and i was super excited to see the vibrant new york i had seen so much in the movies.

and then i land in jfk, where i spend two hours in immigration with a bunch of other mouthbreathers. where, the minute i step outside, i see a dirty, old, decaying airtrain. where i can't even check into my hotel because i'm 18 and i have to beg with the staff there to let me sleep a night. two homeless guys fighting outside of my hotel room in manhattan, urinating on the sidewalk. dirty streets, an incredibly confusing subway system with a broken elevator, the god damn fucking stairs that i had to drag my two fucking suitcases up and down three times because i got on the wrong side of the station and apparently that meant i couldn't cross onto the downtown platform and had to pay the fare a second time like a schmuck. all that to make it to a remote bus stop in hudson yards to my little college town because there's no train that runs there.

coming from moscow, which had immaculately manicured streets, a public transportation system that spans the area of a small european country, and comparing it with the vibrant new york i imagined in my mind, i honestly thought i landed in the wrong country. i was so disappointed, so let down.

i've grown to love it since. especially new york. it's just a huge culture shock to see the real america, the one whose infrastructure is falling apart and is miles behind the rest of the civilized world. it's just what happens when you have a car-centric society where a rental car costs less than a train ticket. maybe it's because i'm no longer as young (but still as naive), maybe it's stockholm syndrome. but i love this hellhole of a country and i'd like to stay here for a while

@sun and as always after you wonder why the US can't have trains the conclusion is "niggers"

and if you wonder a bit more on that conclusion it's "jews"

wondering why the US can't have trains? i'll show you something interesting.

the two types of reasons the US can't have trains are niggers and jews. all reasons fall into these two categories.

      random bouts of violence? niggers.
predatory financing making infrastructure investment impossible? jews.
      bad hygiene? niggers.
breaking into tracks to add derailers? jews.

despite being a jewish trait, fare evasion is niggers.

@Leyonhjelm @sun Some of the people I've met that are the most vocally against public transportation are black people trying to leave the ghetto behind
