@vapaad that's fair, I didn't know that but it makes sense
I've seen how people drive in this country, I shouldn't expect that laws will make people do something lol -

@raphaelmorgan @vapaad there was a lot of vaccine misinfo that went out too, though. Including from the US government. I also don't like how the Dems or Republicans politicized it ("this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated", anyone?) but we've had mandatory vaccines for years without the backlash we saw during COVID. I'm all for education and access being improved first, but idk I'm not convinced that removing requirements would be a good idea.
Like, the rise of the antivax movement is not a good time to be dismantling public health procedures that had successfully largely eradicated diseases that have now started to make a comeback, from what I can tell

@raphaelmorgan considering we see vaccination rates of all sorts plummeted in response to Covid vaccine mandates, I would like to go based on real trends just not what we think should be right.
So many people stopped doing any vaccines as a direct response to the politicization of vaccines on both sides.
I try to bridge that gap every single day at work, and as an immunization and communicable disease nurse, but I'm not winning.

@jepyang oh my gosh we are so aligned on this, something I feel so strongly about
(Also, forcing people to get vaccines doesn't improve public health it just deteriorates trust) (Also people shouldn't need gps tracking to walk in the woods or mountains) (Also it's okay if outdoor recreation is dangerous, more people would have improved mental health if they did dangerous things carefully more often)

@vapaad @jepyang idk if I'd go so far as to say forced vaccines don't improve public health. They sure improve the health of people who can't get vaccines for medical reasons, or in the cases of vaccines that aren't 100% effective (like COVID), the more people have the vaccine the less likely we *all* are to get infected
But I agree that forcing isn't the best way to do that. Education and encouragement/reward would be better -

yes, HRT is really very safe and gender-affirming surgery has remarkably low regret rates.
but also: people should be able to do dangerous things they’re likely to regret to their own bodies.

i know some of yall aren’t ready for that because i get pushback even when i post the most milquetoast trans-specific body autonomy takes like “HRT should be over-the-counter”
