   the hatred xmpp gets is a little overblown, yeah it is unstable, the encryption is janky and poorly documented, but like homie, are you actually doing anything that requires this super high threat model? or are you just shitposting? half of ya'll mfs are openly inciting terrorism on fedi, which doesn't even pretend to be private
   
   if you are doing that kind of stuff you shouldn't be chatting about it, or you should be coordinating over the deep web(if at all) on a dedicated device that probably isn't a phone lmao

     it's just like, if XMPP+OMEMO were really this horrible insecure thing no one should trust, you would think they'd have found a whole bunch of 0days by now - i'm looking around and I haven't found any - that is how actual security researchers demonstrate the security vs. insecurity of an app or protocol, they do some penetration tests and find a vulnerability and publish it, to the benefit of the software they're testing and to their own careers
     
     They don't just skim the docs and say 'oh this has unserious vibes don't use it" in a blog post, and then call whoever pushes back against that very shallow criticism a cargo cultist, that's not at all what an actual hacker does, a hacker will do the fucking work and not just talk out of their ass, resting on their status as an 'expert' because they know that credentials don't mean shit in real life
     
     ^^ such a transparent grift that, like had this "expert" tell me don't ever use XMPP but actually Whatsapp is the most secure thing out there. Ya know, the closed source Facebook app that asks for all the permissions. absolute clowns - it really is a sign of the age that any semblance of scientific rigour has been replaced with dogmatic punditry and most cannot tell the difference.
