Argh. Our township government chose to move to a different online payment portal.

Which requires me to create an account on the online payment portal.

The former online payment portal allowed me to make online payment without creating an account.

@redcrew I had to do that recently when our HOA changed platforms. It's so annoying

@redcrew Oh my. If it makes you feel any better, we pay 2 property tax payments a year in Cook County. The last was due on 3 August but... they haven't even finalized the amounts yet so we have no idea when or how much we'll actually pay.

@chris And it appears they're not ready. Water payments can be made online but when I visit link on their property tax payments page, I get a message that says, "The system is not ready for payments."

They'll still accept in-person payments by credit card, cash, or check.

@redcrew Oof. That would really frustrate me. I think I’ve used a total of 2 checks over the last decade.

@chris We pay our property tax twice a year, too.

Our HOA only takes checks. No online payment. No in-person payment.

@redcrew Even those tend to take Apple Pay or similar, at least since before Covid. One check we wrote was for our car and I know there was another, but I don’t remember what it was for.

@chris I've had contractors who worked on our home who prefer checks over credit cards.

@chris @redcrew here in WV, for property taxes, they send you a paper once a year showing what you said you owned the last time. You have to fill out that paper and mail it back to them. If you don't, or they didn't receive/process it, they don't know how much you owe. Then, you have to go to their physical office and tell them what you owned for that year (which is usually 2-3 years ago) so they can figure out what taxes you owe (and tack on a penalty for not paying on time)
