What are your thoughts on adding #ActivityPub support to a blog? I feel like blogs are different and should be separate from social media(?)

A simple solution for letting people comment on a blog post could be embedding a post including all of its replies. However, for blogs, you want comments to survive as long as possible and Fediverse servers generally don’t guarantee that.

@rauschma we have at least four blogging platforms that support AP: WriteFreely, Plume, WordPress and Ghost.

@max @rauschma Mastodon and Threads both support Article now, with abbreviated content (title, summary, link). I think they work great.

@rauschma @evan Mastodon seems to want to focus on being a home for short-form content (Note) and some of its contributors think Article support (long-form content) would diminish that. But with Mastodon being the largest fediverse platform, a lack of at least basic support diminishes the reach of blogging platforms that could use Article to do interesting things.

I still don’t know which side of the argument to root for myself, but I like that there is a debate and both sides have good points.

@rauschma One of the interesting parts of these integrations I think is the ongoing debate over the support of the Article object type (as opposed to the Note type that is the majority of Mastodon content) in the Fediverse. Some of the blog tools @evan mentioned use Article. Others don’t. Mastodon still doesn’t have a strong out of the box view for Article, but many of its forks do, and the debate continues if Mastodon itself should.

@evan Thanks! I’m wondering if people like this kind of fusion; if it works well for them. Pros and cons if you will.

@max @rauschma I'd also really recommend that anyone interested in this topic try out the reader UI in Ghost 6. It is really elegant and beautiful and supports Article natively.
