@sun there was some journo pop sci recently about how an experiment was done with chatgpt models and simulating social media. it turned in to the twitter hellscape. then they tried various strategies people have proposed and found none of it worked. social media is cooked, people are just addicted to being slaves.
@icedquinn what I mean to say is that html + RSS is like 75% of the way there, if you constrain content according to a couple of additional rules then you can make sense out of chaos. OStatus idea was good but the design went off the rails
@sun some other project said the LLMs they tried could be fine tuned to predict social outcomes "40% of the time" so i'm sure there is some bayesian horror that makes this workable.
@icedquinn@blob.cat@sun@shitposter.world we need a social media site with people but every post is piped through a llm to rewrite it to comply with community standards
@Ergo@sun hot take email not as broken as everyone whines.
sure it could do with being an actual binary protocol like it should have been. but for the most part... :cirno_shrug:
the problems it has are largely big tech shittery (centralizing all the mail so self hosted servers get auto rejected for "spam") and nobody's proposed anything better since.
@sun@icedquinn everybody hosting their own RSS blog sounds nice but there is no mechanism to reply, unless you wanna use email. It would be more healthy since it doesn't promote meaningless posts and meaningless interactions
