     I didn't like him very much, neither as captain Kirk in Star Trek, nor as the crazy old lawyer Denny Crane in Boston Legal. But this is of course only my modest opinion.

     @antmetsa makes sense. I like his exuberance, his funny self confidence. I learned he wears a hairpiece and is quite vain. that makes him very human for me.

     Yes, he is indeed a very personable actor, I'm not trying to deny that. To me, Picard is the real captain of the Enterprise. And in Voyager of course Kathryn Janeway.
